Permitting Director

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have established Interconnector Execution Ltd to lead development and execution of HVDC interconnector investments. We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Permitting Director to drive development progress of our projects. This role will involve securing necessary permits, licenses and consents from organisations in UK and EU (Germany, Belgium).  

The Role 

As Permitting Director, you will be entrusted with the responsibility to own and lead the permitting process for one or more interconnector projects. You will design & own the permitting strategy, engage specialist third parties to support execution and ultimately help deliver a project that is ready to build. During construction & operation, you will ensure compliance to permit conditions at all phases. 

Location: UK or Germany - Hybrid working model. 

Your responsibilities will consist of but are not limited to: 

  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with the project development 
  • Engage and negotiate with key stakeholders including governments, regulators, project partners, and contractors 
  • Provide input material to investment board meetings 
  • Oversee the procurement of permitting contracts (such as EIA), ensuring timeliness, compliance, quality, and value for money 
  • Manage contractual arrangements with suppliers and contractors, mitigating risks and ensuring adherence to agreed terms 
  • Lead the planning and consenting process, managing Environmental Impact Assessments and marine consenting

The Successful Candidate 

A Development Director, Permitting Director or permitting expert that has been involved with developing and permitting of large-scale energy projects. First class academics at college (at A level or equivalent), and Degree or Masters 

We look for the following in a candidate: 

  • 10 years’ experience in developing large energy infrastructure projects, specifically with a minimum level of projects totalling at least 5 GW (ideally within the UK and/or Germany) 
  • Familiarity with marine consenting and HVDC cables is advantageous but not essential 
  • Experience in planning and consenting, including Environmental Impact Assessments and Marine consenting. 
  • Specific experience of mitigating project delays and examples of managing large budgets (£15m per project) of development stage projects will be required. 
  • Able to get up the knowledge curve rapidly and develop expertise on new regulatory regimes and their impact upon IRR's, PF cashflow models and key metrics/KPI's. Through desktop reading and research. 
  • Extensive leadership and communication skillset; simplifying complexity of permitting work for Investment Board
